Independent Commission Could Help Boost the Local Economy
11th October 2013

Businesses in West Sussex are being encouraged to take part in the West Sussex Independent Economic Commission which runs until 8th November 2013.

Established by West Sussex County Council, the Commission aims to establish the potential for economic growth across West Sussex and the action required by the council to secure it. Chaired by Professor John Craven CBE, the panel includes many key figures from across the county. They are being supported by Shared Intelligence, a professional research consultancy.

During the research period the Commission is keen to receive views from businesses in our area. Information provided will help the panel to understand business needs, local economic issues and how the role of West Sussex’s Area Partnerships and the Coast to Capital LEP can be developed.

As part of the Commission ‘A Call for Evidence’ is being made so that business people can provide their views on a wide range of economic issues. Nine major topics are up for discussion including the impact of the local housing market and how important the expansion of Gatwick Airport could be to achieving sustainable economic growth in West Sussex. All of the opinions that are submitted will have a direct bearing on the recommendations the Commission will make to West Sussex County Council and also on the Council’s future economic strategy.

A survey is also being conducted online so that business people can answer questions with ease. It looks at the challenges, barriers and opportunities facing the county’s economy. The survey which takes around 15 to 20 minutes to complete can be found online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/DSVV8K9. All individual survey responses will remain confidential and will not be disclosed to third parties.

Once the evidence has been gathered and analysed, the Commission will report back to the county council in January 2014.
