Transport

West Sussex is located in the heart of South East England. We have great access to London by rail and road, and are the home of London Gatwick Airport. All our urban centres are within an hour of international airports and ports.

 

Road

The A23/M23 links West Sussex and London Gatwick Airport to London and the M25 London Orbital, linking the South of England to the Midlands, the South West and the North of England. The A27/M27 links our coastal urban centres with Brighton & Hove, Southampton and Portsmouth.

 

Rail

There are direct rail links between our urban centres and London, London Gatwick Airport and other major commercial centres. The journey times from the Gatwick Diamond to central London is around 30 minutes. There are excellent rail links to, and between our urban centres on the coast, with direct links to Brighton, Portsmouth and Southampton.

 

Air

London Gatwick Airport is in the Gatwick Diamond, in the north-east of West Sussex.  It serves more destinations than any other UK airport and is the best connected point-to-point airport in Europe. Gatwick welcomes nearly 34 million passengers a year flying to approximately 200 destinations in Europe, Asia, Russia, USA, Africa and Australasia.

London Heathrow Airport is easily accessible by road and rail.  It is the one of the world’s busiest airports, with excellent transatlantic links and other major commercial centres around the world.  Heathrow serves more than 70 million passengers a year flying to approximately 180 destinations in 80 countries worldwide.

Southampton Airport has regular flights to a wide range of European destinations, including Barcelona, Geneva, Hanover and Paris.

Shoreham (Brighton City) Airport and the Goodwood Aerodrome are smaller airports in West Sussex. 

 

Sea

Shoreham Port services 700-800 ship movements and helps to transport 1.8m tonnes of cargo each year and Newhaven Port provides a direct sea route for passengers and cargo to France.

Portsmouth International Port and the Port of Southampton are located nearby.
